Ameris Bancorp
Ameris Bancorp's revenue rose 5.7% to $1.2 billion in fiscal 2025. Net income was $412 million, up 14.9%. Its return on equity was 10.5%, up from 10.0% a year earlier. Its efficiency ratio was 50.0%, down from 53.2% a year earlier. It paid out $138 million in dividends and buybacks. The diluted share count fell 0.5%.
Return on equity is net income as a share of shareholders' equity; return on tangible equity leaves out goodwill and other intangible assets. The efficiency ratio is operating costs as a share of revenue, so lower means the bank spends less to earn each dollar. Market cap is the last closing share price times the latest diluted share count, so it is approximate. P/E is the last close divided by diluted earnings per share over the last four quarters, or the latest fiscal year where the quarters aren't available; there is none when the company made a loss.

What Ameris Bancorp does
Ameris Bancorp is a financial holding company. Nearly all of its business runs through its bank subsidiary, Ameris Bank, which serves retail and commercial customers in select markets in Georgia, Alabama, Florida, North Carolina and South Carolina. It also serves some consumer and business customers nationwide through chosen lending channels.
The bank offers a full range of everyday banking and lending products, treasury and cash management, insurance premium financing, and mortgage and refinancing services. It earns money mainly from the interest on loans and securities, less the interest it pays on deposits, plus fees from services such as mortgage banking. The bank says it competes with larger banks by letting local market leaders make decisions.
At the end of 2025 it had approximately $27.52 billion in total assets and operated offices only in the United States. Besides growing its existing business, it says it expects to buy other banks when suitable chances come up.
Its biggest risks, as it describes them
- Strong competition from other banks and financial firms.
- Earnings that depend closely on market interest rates.
- Losing deposits, which could mean liquidity problems and higher funding costs.
- Credit losses larger than the amount it has set aside for them.
- Acquisitions that may not bring the revenue or savings it expects.
Income statement
From fiscal 2016 to 2025, earnings per share grew 12.5% a year and net income 21.4% a year, as new shares raised the share count by 98% and diluted each share's earnings.
