Yum! Brands
Yum! Brands' revenue rose 8.8% to $8.2 billion in fiscal 2025. Its operating margin was 31.3%, down from 31.8% a year earlier. Free cash flow was $1.6 billion, up 14.5%. It paid out $1.3 billion in dividends and buybacks, 82% of free cash flow. The diluted share count fell 1.4%.
Operating margin is operating income as a share of revenue. Free cash flow is cash from operations minus capital spending. Return on capital is after-tax operating income as a share of the money invested in the business: debt plus equity, minus cash. Market cap is the last closing share price times the latest diluted share count, so it is approximate. P/E is the last close divided by diluted earnings per share over the last four quarters, or the latest fiscal year where the quarters aren't available; there is none when the company made a loss.
What Yum! Brands does
Yum! Brands owns the KFC, Taco Bell, Pizza Hut and Habit Burger & Grill restaurant chains, with more than 63,000 restaurants in 155 countries and territories. KFC sells fried and other chicken, Taco Bell sells Mexican-style food such as tacos and burritos, Pizza Hut sells pizza for delivery, carryout and dine-in, and Habit sells grilled burgers and sandwiches.
Yum reports one segment for each of its four chains; KFC is the largest, with 33,897 restaurants. Nearly all the restaurants, 97% at the end of 2025, are run by independent franchisees, who pay for the buildings and equipment. Yum earns upfront fees and monthly fees based on a share of each franchised restaurant's sales, typically 4% to 6%, plus advertising contributions, and also earns sales from the restaurants it runs itself. Its largest master franchisee is Yum China, a former part of the company that runs its brands in mainland China and pays a fee of 3% of sales there. Yum says its chains compete with other restaurant chains, local restaurants, supermarkets, convenience stores and food delivery services.
Yum and its subsidiaries employed about 49,000 people at the end of 2025, about 28,000 of them in the United States; franchisees hire their own workers. In 2025 Yum began reviewing options for Pizza Hut and expected to finish that review in 2026.
Its biggest risks, as it describes them
- Food safety scares or outbreaks of food-borne illness linked to its restaurants or the wider industry.
- Its dependence on the success of its franchisees, including Yum China, and their ability to open and run restaurants profitably.
- The review of options for Pizza Hut may not lead to a deal or bring the expected benefits.
- Its growing reliance on online ordering and delivery apps, and on technology that may not work as planned.
- Rising food and other costs, supply shortages, and weaker consumer spending in its markets.

Valuation
Two ways to value Yum! Brands yourself, both starting from its filings: a discounted cash flow model and the price-to-earnings method.
Discounted cash flow (DCF)
A discounted cash flow (DCF) model values a business as the cash it may generate in future, discounted back to today. The starting figures come from Yum! Brands' 10-K (or, for net cash and shares, its latest 10-Q) and the assumptions are yours: start from one of three example scenarios, then change any figure to see what it implies for a share, and how that compares with the last share price.
Value per share on three example scenarios, from Yum! Brands' cash from operations minus depreciation in fiscal 2025 (free cash flow before spending to grow: capital spending was 1.8 times depreciation, which holds its free cash flow down) of $1.8B, net cash of −$11.3B at December 31, 2025 and 281 million diluted shares, from its filings. The scenarios are fitted to Yum! Brands: the base scenario's growth in years 1 to 5 is its revenue growth over the last 3 years, 6.3% a year; the cautious and optimistic ones are lower and higher, and growth in years 6 to 10 is halfway to the long-run rate. The base scenario's discount rate is 9% for a business of moderate risk (Restaurants); the cautious and optimistic ones use a point more and a point less. Select one to load it into the calculator. These are the model's arithmetic on those assumptions, not a forecast or a price target.

How the value changes with two assumptions
Price-to-earnings (P/E) method
Another common way to value a company is to multiply its earnings per share by a price-to-earnings (P/E) multiple: the number of years of today's earnings an investor pays for a share. A higher multiple usually means investors expect earnings to grow. Choose a multiple, for example from similar companies, to see the value it gives.
Value per share on three example scenarios, from Yum! Brands' earnings per share of $7.95 (over the last four quarters). Each grows earnings for a year at the cash flow scenarios' rates and applies a multiple to next year's earnings: 18.7×, the middle of Yum! Brands' own P/E today, its peers' median and its sector's median (its peers' median) for the base scenario, 20% less and more for the cautious and optimistic ones. The price is brought back a year at 10%, 9% and 8%. Select one to load it into the calculator. These are the model's arithmetic on those assumptions, not a forecast or a price target.

Piotroski F-score
The F-score counts how many of nine simple tests of profitability, funding and efficiency a company passed in a year (Piotroski, 2000). The more tests passed, the stronger the year: 8 or 9 is strong, 0 to 2 weak. Companies that report no gross profit are scored on the other eight.
