Atlantic Union Bankshares
Atlantic Union Bankshares' revenue rose 68.1% to $1.4 billion in fiscal 2025. Net income was $274 million, up 30.9%. Its return on equity was 6.7%, down from 7.3% a year earlier. Its efficiency ratio was 65.2%, up from 62.1% a year earlier. It paid out $192 million in dividends and buybacks. The diluted share count rose 46.9%.
Return on equity is net income as a share of shareholders' equity; return on tangible equity leaves out goodwill and other intangible assets. The efficiency ratio is operating costs as a share of revenue, so lower means the bank spends less to earn each dollar. Market cap is the last closing share price times the latest diluted share count, so it is approximate. P/E is the last close divided by diluted earnings per share over the last four quarters, or the latest fiscal year where the quarters aren't available; there is none when the company made a loss.

What Atlantic Union Bankshares does
Atlantic Union Bankshares is a bank holding company based in Richmond, Virginia. Its subsidiary, Atlantic Union Bank, serves commercial and retail clients from branches and ATMs in Virginia, Maryland, Washington, D.C. and North Carolina. Non-bank affiliates provide equipment financing, investment services and capital markets services.
It earns money the way banks do: it takes deposits and makes loans, including commercial real estate, construction, and commercial and industrial loans, and it also earns fees. It also earns revenue from mortgage lending. At December 31, 2025, it had $37.6 billion in assets.
On April 1, 2025, it completed a merger with Sandy Spring Bancorp, gaining more than 50 branches in Virginia, Maryland and Washington, D.C., and it finished combining the branches and operations on October 14, 2025. It later sold a block of commercial real estate loans that it acquired in the merger.
Its biggest risks, as it describes them
- Loan losses larger than the allowance it sets aside.
- Heavy exposure to commercial real estate and construction loans.
- Mortgage revenue that swings with interest rates and the housing market.
- Difficulty keeping a stable base of low-cost deposits.
- Lending to small and mid-sized local businesses, which can raise credit risk.
