Operating margin is operating income as a share of revenue. Free cash flow is cash from operations minus capital spending. Return on capital is after-tax operating income as a share of the money invested in the business: debt plus equity, minus cash. Market cap is the last closing share price times the latest diluted share count, so it is approximate. P/E is the last close divided by diluted earnings per share over the last four quarters, or the latest fiscal year where the quarters aren't available; there is none when the company made a loss.

Charts show fiscal years, from the 10-K filings.

What Commerce.com does

Commerce.com sells cloud software that lets businesses run online stores and sell across many channels. It was named BigCommerce Holdings until July 2025 and is the parent of three products. BigCommerce is its ecommerce platform for building and running online storefronts, catalogs and orders, used by large brands, business-to-business sellers and small businesses. Feedonomics manages product data and sends it to marketplaces, ad channels, search engines and social platforms. Makeswift is a visual editor for building storefront and content pages.

It earns money mainly from subscription fees for its platform and its product data service, along with some one-time fees, a share of payments revenue and professional services. It says it is built around partners: its platform connects with payment, tax, shipping, order management and marketing tools from other companies, rather than controlling the whole technology stack.

Commerce.com is based in Austin, Texas, and was founded in Sydney, Australia. At the end of 2025 it had 1,079 full-time employees, most of them in the United States.

Its biggest risks, as it describes them

  • A history of operating losses, with no promise of reaching profit on its expected timeline.
  • Intense competition that may limit its ability to add and keep customers.
  • Advances in AI that may reduce demand for ecommerce software if it cannot keep up.
  • Its partner-centered strategy, and its rebranding, may not work as planned.
  • A data breach, or outages at its data center providers, could cost it customers.

Grants, option exercises and shares withheld for tax aren't counted. Insiders buy and sell for many reasons, such as taxes, spreading their savings or a plan set up months earlier, so a trade on its own says little about where a company is heading. Piotroski F-score: how many of nine simple tests of profitability, funding and efficiency the company passed in the year (Piotroski, 2000); 8 or 9 is strong, 0 to 2 weak. Rule of 40: revenue growth plus free cash flow margin; software investors treat 40% or more as the bar. Altman Z'': working capital, retained earnings, operating income and equity weighed against assets and liabilities (Altman, 1995); Altman puts above 2.6 in the safe zone and below 1.1 in the distress zone. Accruals ratio: net income minus cash from operations, over average total assets; lower means profit is backed by cash.
